Area of cultivation
Aleatico di Gradoli grows on the hills high above the lake of Bolsena. The Aleatico vine has its roots in Greece, and was later cultivated in Italy, already during the times of the Etruscans. She finds perfect conditions here at the lake. Volcanic soil rich in minerals and considerable temperature fluctuations between day and night unfold the full aroma of the grape.
Aleatico di Gradoli has been classified as D.O.C. since 1972 and is produced in the municipalities of Gradoli, Grotte di Castro, San Lorenzo Nuovo and Latera.
The grape Aleatico di Gradoli
The red Aleactico grape is very small and transparent.
Aleatico di Gradoli DOC is available in four varieties: Aleatico, Aleatico liqueur, Aleatico liqueur reserve and Aleatico passito.
The nose is intense with aromas of black cherries, dried fruit and almonds. Fresh, delicate and warm on the palate.
Aleatico: Pomegranate red color with a touch of violet, full-bodied, soft and fruity sweet.
Aleatico liqueur: Slightly less intense pomegranate red color, partly with a light violet.
Aleatico liqueur reserve: Slightly less intense pomegranate red color tending towards orange. Matured in oak barrels.
Aleatico passito: Ruby red color with a touch of violet. Intense flavour.
Cultivation and production
The maturation in the field is checked very carefully. The right moment of maturity with the optimal sugar concentration is essential for the Aleatico liqueur wine. At harvest, the grapes are carefully selected and placed by hand in small containers, carefully to keep the small Aleatico grape intact. The further processing takes place in steel, as in the red wine production. Once the fermentation is completed, the alcohol content is increased by adding quality alcohol. The aging period is between 6 months for Aleatico and up to 2 years for Aleatico Reserva.
Tips for the ideal enjoyment
